How to Email Me
If you do decide to email me, please follow these guidelines:
| Do |
Do not |
Follow good netiquette (e.g. rfc1855.org)
Put a proper Subject on your mail. A good
subject line should give me a good idea of the contents of
the mail. Think of it as a headline.
Keep the mail in plain text.
Make sure that you get your message across in the
body of the mail.
Re-read and spell-check your email.
If possible, sign the mail with your private GnuPG (or OpenPGP)
key. Windows users can use PGP.
Feel free to encrypt the mail with my public key
available at your local GnuPG/PGP key server.
|
USE ALL UPPER CASE. ANYWHERE.
Use a misleading subject.
Use large attachments. Respect my (lack of)
bandwidth. I respect yours.
Send HTML or RTF-formatted mails to me. It will just
waste bandwidth, as I will only read the plain-text version
anyway.
Repeatedly send the same mail to me.
Attach documents in a format that can only be read
by a Windows program, e.g. Microsoft Word. It's OK to
advertise Microsoft Word, but don't expect me to listen. A
long
version is here.
Forward chain letters or virus "alerts"
(read: hoaxes) to me.
Repeatedly send the same mail to me.
|
Note that I have implemented mail filters that will filter out (most) of
the things that I try to discourage above. If that fails, I can "block"
certain senders.
Finally, you will need my email address:
